What Local Native Plant Is That?

In Bushland Near Your School

Choosing Sites

NATURAL BUSHLAND is undisturbed vegetation that is completely self-supporting without additional planting or gardening of any sort.

Some schools will find this easy because they have natural bushland over the school fence.

Where is natural bushland near your  school?
Local EXPERTS will help choose the site and they will identify the plants.   When you join this programme we will put you in touch with people who know about the plants near YOUR school.

Your class and the EXPERT will need to agree on a piece of bushland close to the school that is completely self-sufficient with no extra planting.

A path where you can walk between the plants will be the best idea. There may be some weeds.  You will need to make a note of these on your lists.

You will not be allowed to take specimens from National Parks, so it must be a public area.

Can you find your school site on a map?

 In the Phone Book?

 On the council web site?

 On Google earth?

How will you map your area?

Do you know about safety precautions in the bush?

Your school's Herbarium PLUS folder will become more interesting, useful and valuable as you add more information

Don't forget to add information about the site as a whole.  Take a photo, draw a picture, write a description
