- Build partnerships and support for community champions in litter prevention.
- Raise public awareness and understanding of litter impacts on the environment
- Promote and support public participation in litter prevention and regular clean ups of public environments.

An audit of the rubbish collected by the EMU Cleanup team along Gympie Terrace revealed numerous plastic cups, cutlery, straws and food wrapping, a dozen beer bottles, over 80 beer bottle caps and 400 cigarette butts, all from just half an hour's cleanup!
NICA takes every opportunity to raise awareness about cigarette butt littering.

Did you know that our Biosphere has a marine area? To keep this rarely seen part of the Biosphere clean and beautiful, a team of volunteer divers went to Jew Shoal on 30 Jan 10. After two dives, they brought back a load of fishing lines, hooks, lures, sinkers, a beer bottle and an anchor.
